We have now produced a delightful collection of Armillaries some of which are reproduced from famous, ancient Armillaries still in existence. We have also sculptured and designed some of our own in what has become a new and unique collection. Whilst we know that time stands still for no man, what better way to "mark it" than by having your own ornamental Armillary proudly displayed in your own beloved garden.

Antique Silver Armillary complete with stand, made from solid brass, and finished with our renowned antique silver finish.
We have chosen to fill in the detail by hand with an antique black to highlight the lovely markings and give a feeling of depth to the decoration and numeral design.
Armillaries are very old time pieces and have a considerable history attached to them, however, with this particular Armillary we thought it would be a little different to produce it in antique silver. This then gives it an altogether different look, possibly a little more contemporary. This Armillary comes complete with its own lovely ornate plinth, it really is quite magnificent.

The ATLAS Armillary - Verdigris, a striking timepiece for any garden. This Armillary portrays the mythical god ATLAS, holding up the world. Cast and hand finished in Solid brass with a bold verdigris lustre. It’s a stunning and theatrical Armillary, dramatic and eye catching. It comes complete with its own matching brass column, which picks out the smooth brass on the armillary. Also shown is one of our larger ornate columns – this is also finished in a verdigris finish, we think they look very stylish when used together. Serpent Armillary

The Serpent Armillary, this is an armillary that certainly belongs in a garden or terrace of discernable quality. It is the biggest and heaviest armillary that we have ever created, and is quite awe inspiring to see. It features the neck and head of a serpent about to strike its prey, which curves at the top of the armillary, whilst the arrow which passes through the middle of the armillary has a very finely detailed head and flight. Ornate decoration and classic roman numerals complete the design.

Bright Chrome Armillary

Our Bright Chrome Armillary has a bright modern finish to a lovely old design.
We are quite a traditional bunch of folk here at black country metal works, but even here we sometimes like to do things a little differently! We loved this look, and think, for all you trendy people with decking and modern, chrome object d’art, this will make a great addition and will blend in perfectly. Of course, as with all our Armillaries, they all look amazing indoors too.
This particular one has lovely Roman numerals depicted along its time line.
We have chosen to display this on our verdigris sundial and armillary column, which is sold separately. We think it adds just the right finishing touch!

The genuine article an armillary made from wrought iron and antiqued in our own special finish. That really does provide a beautiful statement in your garden that has been weighted so that they don’t fall over in the wind, as with cheaper alternatives. However we still recommend using mastic or all weather adhesive to secure the item to your column or chosen surface. We recommend either a light oiling every season or using hammerite paints but invariably they are seasoned to provide a very rustic aged appearance, so if it was my choice I would suggest leaving the item to age naturally.

A solid brass Globe Armillary with Stand constructed of bands of beautiful solid brass which cross and weave to form an earth globe. We have then chosen to mount the armillary on its own handsome brass column. The Zenith Bright Chrome Armillary is one of our latest additions to what has become one of the world’s finest collections of Armillaries and Time pieces.
Finished in stunning bright polished chrome the Zenith is a contemporary piece with clean lines, and a very up to the minute dial that is suitable for any garden or terrace, conservatory or patio.
The translation of the inscription around the dial means "Time is but a shadow" The flat base of this armillary depicts the powerful Celtic Pentangle.
We have produced only one hundred pieces and these will be the only production we do of this design. Each piece will come with setting up instructions and a personal referral to the Sundial Society, which is a membership of enthusiasts that offer help, historical information and support.
