G vi R is the regal cypher or monogram of the King, and it has been displayed beautifully on this magnificent post box.

Prince Albert became king in1936 and chose the name of his father upon ascending the throne. This was to ensure continuity after his father’s death and restore faith in the monarchy. The monarchy had been shaken after King George’s brother abdicated the throne in order to marry.

The mail box has been finished in a a classy black, adorned with white lettering and the majestic insignia. Its front has been made from cast aluminium and its back has been fabricated from steel, making this wonderfully traditional postal box entirely authentic, even featuring a time table holder.

Although he never expected to take the throne King George was the last Emperor of India, and became the father to two daughters one of whom is our reigning Queen.
