Clive Knowles - Chairman & Founder

Clive Knowles

Our interests in running this business are of course to ensure our customers are cared for, that they would always wish to return, and that together we gain a mutual benefit in the long-term.

However, we have little or no interest in following the more corporate route of chasing sales or increasing profitability at any cost.

We always prefer to operate within a more conscious based ethos. This means, we effectively make decisions, based on the good of all involved, our customer, our community, our nation and all of the staff and artisans working here.

It may sound a little reminiscent of the kibbutz concept, but we know, that by taking a very proactive stance on all the elements in running our business, that we can achieve and enrich many goals simultaneously benefiting so many more than just ourselves.

What am I most proud of:

In recent years we've achieved such a lot -

  • We've been recognised with an International Peace Award for our efforts on the national blight surrounding knife crime.
  • We've received several commendations from police forces for our support.
  • We've become the home of several national museums/societies and collections.
  • We've exceeded 100,000 members, now one of the biggest private members destinations in the country.
    and last but most importantly:
  • We have managed to run what is a 5-star destination, that remains free to enter, which is unique in the region.

I have listed below some impartial words of advice, which I would ask all our customers to consider when shopping on the Internet.

When shopping on the internet, always check that the company has -

  • Landline telephone numbers, not mobile numbers!
  • Has a VAT registration number
  • Offers full address details
  • Offers director or staff details
  • Offers a trading history
  • Most Importantly, offers a Secured payment gateway
