Garden Topiary Set-up Guide

To plant and create your new topiary frame we have put together some simple advice.

  • Fill the frame with sphagnum moss, the same type as used to line hanging baskets. This is always best done with a tighter mesh frame.

  • The frame is then packed with moss as tight as possible, you. Then carefully trim, any superfluous bits using scissors.

Lots of people are happy to simply enjoy this as a maintenance free ‘mossed’ ornamental feature, however you can add you own chosen plants, simply by using a garden soil dibber to poke a hole, and inserting a selection of young plants. Don’t forget to thoroughly soak the moss frame before inserting your plants.

Any bits of moss that grow out of shape can be trimmed as and when needed. Water as you would your other tubs and hanging plant baskets
Or, if you prefer simply place your frame on your lawn or flower beds and grow your plants around and inside your sculpture, trimming into shape as they grow.
And lastly, you can use them as stand alone features, without the need to add plants or foliage. Simply place anywhere in your garden and enjoy.
