Kadai Fire Bowl Care and Maintenance
These breath-taking examples of the old Indian “Kadai fire bowl” are just perfect for anyone who has a passion for outdoor entertaining. Originating from India, they were originally used to cook fragrant and spicy dishes for whole villages.
Every fire pit is different in weight and size because many are made from reclaimed and reused iron. Therefore each one is unique and supplied with a natural rustic finish. Fire bowls can be painted with suitable stove paints, which can be reapplied at specific periods in line with the manufacturer's recommendations.
These products are genuine antiques and not reproductions in any way. They are wonderfully aged, their origins dating back for years. Each of them is entirely individual and some even bear the characteristic marks of their original use.
For cleaning and maintenance of the bowl, we suggest the bowl is lightly rubbed down with wire wool and coated using a cloth with vegetable oil or similar. This can be done each time the bowl is used or on a regular basis.
To help protect the bowl and extend its length of service, we recommend using a sand base within the bowl (builders sand). This helps shield and protect the base from the burning coal or wood. It is important that after use (and cooling) the sand is removed if damp. The bowl may contain drainage holes which help ensure standing water is not able to rest within the bowl. These can be added also, depending on personal preference. During wet weather and winter months, the bowl should be stored undercover.
