G vi R is the regal cypher or monogram of the King, and it has been displayed beautifully on this magnificent post box.
Prince Albert became king in1936 and chose the name of his father upon ascending the throne. This was to ensure continuity after his father’s death and restore faith in the monarchy.
The monarchy had been shaken after King George’s brother abdicated the throne in order to marry.
The mail box has been finished in a regal pillar box red, adorned with white lettering and the majestic insignia. This wonderfully traditional postal box also has authentic features including a time table holder.
Although he never expected to take the throne King George was the last Emperor of India, and became the father to two daughters one of whom is our reigning Queen.
