Here at Black Country Metal Works, we don’t just create high-quality metalwork products. We also dedicate a portion of our time to creating unique sculptures of national and community-based significance. With creating art through metalwork at the centre of everything we do, we’ve always got the next big project in mind. Below are the ones that we’ve been working on over the years.
Inspired by Uri Gellar’s time spent with chimpanzees, the Spoon Gorilla is a 12-foot-tall statue crafted from an astonishing 40,000 spoons, including one used by Winston Churchill himself! This famous piece can be found at our Centre. Find out more about his creation here.
Made from over 100,000 surrendered blades, the Knife Angel is now recognised as the National Monument Against Violence & Aggression. The sculpture is currently on its intermittent UK tour, travelling the country and educating youth about the negative effects of violence and aggression. Find out more about this incredible sculpture here.
The legend of King Midas tells a cautionary tale of greed and being careful what you wish for. Inspired by this, the King Midas statue has been crafted from hundreds of one-pound coins and is as fascinating to look at as his story is to tell. Find out more about how he was made here.
Following the unfortunate death of the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital’s resident peacock, Percy, we created the official ‘Percy the Peacock’ memorial from obsolete and unused medical equipment. The sculpture now stands proudly outside of the hospital entrance. Find out more about Percy’s legacy and the sculpture here.
